Debate on rugby
Debate on rugby
My congratulations to Mr. Farid Baskoro for his letter (The
Jakarta Post,June 7, 1995).
After Mr. Baskoro's letter, The Jakarta Post will be obliged
to face the hard reaction from active readers. It is the price of
being an open-minded and courageous newspaper.
Do not worry Mr. Baskoro, most readers will not be bored
reading a debate on rugby. You have demonstrated that the topic
can be considered a starting point for facing some more important
problems as "linguistic chauvinism, cultural arrogance" and
"colonial attitude." The topic could be extended and amplified
with "psychological colonialism," the "use of sport as a butting
ram for penetrating the cultural economic tissue of countries,"
and so on.
