Death toll rises in Padang accident

PADANG, West Sumatra (JP): The death toll from Wednesday's train accident in Jembatan Tinggi, Lembah Anai, has risen to 16 as rescue workers found one more body on Friday morning.

Rescue workers were quoted by Antara as saying that the body of Jefri, 11, was found under the wreckage of the train's freight cars.

Padang Panjang Mayor Yohanis Tamin said rescue operations were continuing and more bodies could be found.

Relief workers estimated that at least four more passengers are still missing.

As of Friday afternoon, rescue workers had only been able to remove three of the seven cars which derailed.(byg)
