Death toll in boat accident rises to 11
JAKARTA: Rescuers searching for victims of a boat accident on a river in Indonesia's Sumatra island have found more bodies, bringing the death toll to 11 with 19 missing, police said on Tuesday.
The search was continuing for possible survivors of the accident in which a motor boat capsized in the district of Kuala Kampar in Riau province on Sunday, said police spokesman Amin Rahimsyah.
The Tuakal Express sank after it was engulfed by high waves surging from a nearby bay. Forty-seven people survived the accident, Rahimsyah said. The waves that caused the accident were triggered by a collision between the river's current and the incoming tide in the bay. -- AFP
