Deadly fumes kill one, injure three

JAKARTA (JP): One man died and three others were hospitalized yesterday after inhaling fumes emitted from waste water allegedly disposed of by a bag factory on Jl. Berdikari in West Jakarta.

West Jakarta Mayor Sutardjianto said yesterday that the mayoralty will investigate.

"If it is proven that the factory discarded its waste into the public gutters, we will take stern action against the owner," he said.

According to residents in the area, the factory has been dumping its waste into the area's gutters because it doesn't have a water treatment facility.

The dead man was identified as Kas, 36. The three other residents are now being treated at the Sumber Waras hospital in West Jakarta. (04)
