Dead woman found in police's home

JAKARTA (JP): A woman was found dead at the residence of Cianjur Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Mamat R. Subekti located in the Pengadegan subdistrict of Pancoran, South Jakarta, on Tuesday night.

The woman, Sarfah, 54, was a relative of Mamat's wife, Rosita, according to South Jakarta Police officers.

Residents found Sarfah lying in a pool of blood with severe head injuries in the living room of the Cianjur Police chief's residence, located in the National Police residential complex.

The maid, Yuli, said Sarfah had instructed her at 12 p.m. on Tuesday to go to Cianjur to run an errand for Rosita.

Sarfah had told Yuli that she was to return to Jakarta in the same day as Sarfah wanted her company.

By the time Yuli returned, at about 8 p.m. on Tuesday, she found the doors locked, and all the lights turned off. Yuli asked for help from the neighbors.

Together they pried a window open, and immediately discovered Sarfah's body in the living room.

"We also found a cup of tea and some cake on a table on the terrace. There's a possibility that the victim knew her attacker," Pancoran Police chief Adj. Comr. Wiyarso said, adding that a video compact disc (VCD) player and two printers were missing from the residence. (ylt)
