Daylight savings and productivity
Daylight savings and productivity
Indeed every Indonesian must be proud of their newly elected
president. I am a Malaysian and have been working in Indonesia
for the last five years. I feel that it is high time that the
President focus on punctuality and discipline.
Permit me to add a point whereby productivity will be improved
and would go a long way toward improving the well-being of
Indonesians. There is a need to do a rethink on Indonesian time
zones, and I suggest that the current West Indonesia Time (WIB),
Central Indonesia Time (WITA) and East Indonesia Time (WIT) be
brought forward by one hour each.
This will have a positive effect on school children and office
staff, so that they may reach home during daylight. It will
facilitate and promote good family relationships as well as
sporting activities.
Central Kalimantan should follow South Kalimantan due to its
proximity. The sun rises in Central Kalimantan at around 5:30
a.m. and sets at 5:45 p.m.
Certainly advancing the time by an hour would bring positive
changes to the people and improve the business environment. Even
electricity can be conserved.
We hope President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has this in his
planning.
