Danny Yuswanto earns GM Norm

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian chess player International Master (MI) Danny Yuswanto finally achieved the Grand Master (GM) Norm on Thursday after collecting an additional 1.5 match points (MPs) at the Wotulo Memorial International Grand Master Chess Tournament.

The additional points were earned when he beat National Master (MN) Sugeng Prayitno in the eighth session and forced a tie with MN Eko Supriyono in the ninth session, Antara news agency reported.

Collecting a total of 6.5 MPs from nine matches was enough for Danny, having an elo rating of 2487, to attain the norm. He will be eligible for the GM title if he can reach another GM Norm in three years.

Danny achieved second place among the tournament's 14 chess players. The event was held at the Clarion Golden Hotel.

On Wednesday Danny agreed for a tie result with GM Krishnan Sasikiran of India.

GM Krunuslav Hulak of Croatia still leads the pack with 6.5 MPs followed by GM Zwa Win Lay of Myanmar in third place.

Four other chess players, GM Krishnan Sasikiran, GM Normunds Miezis of Latvia, GM Stefan Djuric of Yugoslavia, and GM Darryl Johansen collected 4 MPs. (nvn)
