Dance festival starts tomorrow
JAKARTA (JP): The International Dance Festival and Conference starts here tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at the Taman Ismail Marzuki arts center (TIM) in Central Jakarta.
Scheduled performances following the opening ceremony are from host country Indonesia, the United States, Singapore and Canada.
Conferences and workshops are planned from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday July 31. The talks on dance, culture and management will also take place at TIM, located on Jl. Cikini Raya.
Performances in the evening from at least six other countries are scheduled on the same days at 8 p.m. Tickets are Rp 15,000 to Rp 20,000, and Rp 5,000 for students.
Tickets for the children's performance, planned for Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Gedung Kesenian Jakarta, are Rp 3,000. (anr)

City closes eight nightspots
JAKARTA (JP): The city public order office has temporarily closed down eight nightspots for violating the regulation on opening hours and lacking operation permits.
The head of the office, Kusaeni, said yesterday that the establishments were closed down for two weeks for operating during the day. The regulation allows them to open until 2 a.m. from Monday to Friday and until 3 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
"The nightspots hold a Sunday club program in which they open during the day," Kusaeni said.
The establishments include six discotheques: Sidney 2000, Puja Sera, Kabuki, Barselona, Jalan-Jalan and TV game in the Topaz building, Imperium and Sumber Artha massage parlors were closed for not having operation permits. (yns)
