Cured lepers to get free education

TANGERANG: To empower cured leprosy patients now living in the Sitanala Leprosy Hospital compound in Neglasari district, Tangerang municipality, a youth group will provide free literacy education.

"We will start the class in November," said Ramdhoni, head of the Bina Insani Foundation that was established by the Tangerang branch of the Indonesian National Youth Committee (KNPI).

He explained on Thursday that the participants will be given a six-month education program and that those who pass will be awarded a certificate of graduation.

He said the foundation would open more classes for cured patients, whose ages range from 25 to 45.

"We do hope that after obtaining this education, they can move on with their lives with some basic knowledge of reading and writing," Ramdhoni said. -- JP
