Cultural traditions take a bow

Stunning in its magnificence, Borobudur Temple in the Central Java town of Magelang is a reminder of the cultural legacy of our ancestors.

That appreciation of the arts continues to live on, as each village in the area, located some 40 kilometers north of Yogyakarta, is still home to its own performing arts groups.

During the recent Wanurejo Village Cultural Festival that was held as a village purification ritual and also to mark Buddha's Day of Enlightenment, local people came out in their full cultural regalia. They showed that times have changed, but the appreciation of cultural events has not diminished.
