Cuban Embassy's response

I do not see the value of including such limited news against Cuba in the Other Opinion section under the title The People's democracy.

As The Jakarta Post does not provide the whole article, it is very difficult to counter what it says, but for sure it is a total lie that the Cuban Embassy provides economic support to the Cubans living in Sweden, with the implicit intention of implying that the Cuban government supports any eventual action of this community against the Swedish government. We have, as all countries do, a close relationship with the Cuban community there, to whom we provide consular services as all embassies do.

Your newspaper should remember that Indonesia also has laws to punish people under the payrolls of foreign governments who carry out subversive actions against their country of origin, as we do in Cuba, and I think that before providing a space in your newspaper for a new attack against Cuba, your prestigious newspaper should remember what is going on between Indonesia and Sweden regarding Aceh.

As I suppose that you may argue that this is what the Swedish newspaper said and not what the Post said, I would remind you that there is always an editorial policy that decides which articles have the merit to appear in a newspaper. There are lots of interesting articles in Cuban newspapers and I have not seen one in your prestigious publication.

If the need arises, I may point out all those cases in which the Post has allowed the publication, under the pretext of reproducing others' news, to attack Cuban leaders and the Cuban government, and take the opportunity to call my country a dictatorship.

MIGUEL RAMIREZ, Ambassador, Cuban Embassy, Jakarta
