Crossword in Indonesian
Let me first congratulate you on your consideration and discretion for not disclosing the name and address of the writer of the letter "Crossword" in your Sunday edition dated Sept. 25, 1994. You did that person an undeserved service!
I don't think I will be far wrong in my assumption that the mother tongue of most of your readers is not English. Therefore, I can't imagine that the omission of an English crossword in your Sunday edition will "traumatize" a great number of your readers.
However, a crossword in Bahasa Indonesia is both stimulating and challenging for your readers of foreign origin, who do like to take an interest in the language of their host country.
I, therefore, suggest to keep on printing a crossword in Bahasa Indonesia in every Sunday edition and additionally dedicate maybe a quarter of one page to the feature of "Bahasa Indonesia for the discerning expatriates." I feel the Sunday edition of The Jakarta Post is the right media to bring Indonesia a little bit closer to its residents of foreign origin.
