Crocodile overturns canoe, attacks man

SAMARINDA, East Kalimantan: A crocodile bit off the right leg of a hunter in the jungles of East Kalimantan, Antara said Saturday.

Villagers had been hunting the crocodile for five days after it killed 14-year-old Muchtar on the bank of a tributary of the Kayan River on Nov. 20.

A group of traditional crocodile hunters went in search of the animal on Thursday.

Idris was in a canoe with two other hunters in Muara Lubuk Pengantin when the animal overturned the canoe.

It attacked Idris and bit off his leg before the man could swim ashore. The other two hunters were not injured.

The incident took place not far from the spot where Muchtar was killed.

"We will not stop the hunt, even if it takes more than one month," Bulungan Police chief Muhammad Hidayat said. (swe)
