Crisis sends money orders down
YOGYAKARTA: One indicator of the inroads made by the crisis may be the number of money orders being processed by the post office.
Head of the Yogyakarta Post Office Yayat Sudrajat said here yesterday the amount processed in the first six months of the year dropped by 17 percent over the same period last year.
Yayat said Rp 21.6 billion was processed through the post office from January through June, compared to Rp 26.1 billion in the first six months of 1997.
He said the number of money orders processed by the post office here was relatively high because Yogyakarta is a university town and many parents use the money order service to send money to their children. (44)
