Crimes spice up 'Takbiran' night
JAKARTA (JP): Idul Fitri eve, known as Takbiran, was marred by
several thefts.
A thief broke into the State Minister of Environment's office
on Jl. DI Panjaitan, East Jakarta.
Police shoot the thief, identified as Muiji, who tried to make
off with telephones and cables at 7:30 p.m., Antara reported.
The suspect was a scavenger from Cianjur, West Java. He now
lives in Kampung Melayu, East Jakarta.
Another robbery took place in West Jakarta, when five people
stopped a BMW sedan about 10:00 p.m. at the Slipi crossroad and
stole a handphone and a purse containing Rp 300,000, the driver's
license and car ownership papers.
Another theft occurred in Srengseng, when a man broke into a
house whose owner was out of town for Idul Fitri.
Local residents caught the suspect, Ibrahim, and took him to
the police station.
West Jakarta police arrested another man, Hendri, was for
trying to rob a bus passenger in Tanjung Duren. (sur)
