Crimes in big cities

Crimes are a serious problem in big cities, and they are on the increase every year. More robberies and murders take place nowadays. You are not even safe in your own home.

Why are cities so dangerous? There are not enough police personnel to deal with the crimes. To fight city crime we need police officers, guns and cars. These can be provided sufficiently if we have enough money. But we lack it.

Another problem is drugs. Crime studies show that many criminals use and sell drugs. Once they start using drugs, they become addicts. Their dependence on drugs keep increasing. But drugs are very expensive. The drug users often commit crimes in order to get drugs.

Then there is the problem of guns. Things get worse if guns can be freely purchased, like in the United States. Anyone can keep a gun at home. So an angry husband may shoot his wife or children.

Social gaps may also become potential sources of crime. The young people of a poor neighborhood have to live a hard life. They may be leavers from a bad school. To make their life easier they choose to sell drugs and involve themselves in petty crime.

It is not going to be easy to change the situation. Much has to be done by the authorities to improve the fate of the people, including the establishment of laws on drugs and possession of guns. People will continue to live in fear if guns can be in everybody's hands.
