Crash and someone is listening

DETROIT: Black boxes for cars? You heard right.

The United States National Transportation Safety Board has recommended fitting black box-type crash recording devices in U.S. cars.

It would store information about accident speeds and air bag deployment.

The board has called for the modification of air bag computer sensors to allow the data to be recorded.

It hopes that by logging information about crashes and air bag deployments, U.S. carmakers can design better air bags.

Black boxes are used in all commercial aircraft to log flight information.
