Court upholds Sinyo's win

JAKARTA: The Supreme Court upheld on Thursday the victory of Sinyo Sarundayang and his running mate Freddy Sualang in the election for North Sulawesi governor and deputy.

The panel of judges said the plaintiffs, the two out-polled tickets of Ferry Tinggogoy/Hamdi Paputungan and Wenny Warouw/Marhany Pua, had failed to provide enough evidence to contest the election result, which was made official by the provincial elections commission.

It was the first dispute regarding gubernatorial election result heard by the Supreme Court, the verdict of which is final.

The plaintiffs had said the election commission failed to register around 30,000 eligible voters, but the judges said it would be too little to change the result, which saw Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle candidates Sinyo and Freddy secure more than 50 percent of the vote. -- Antara
