Court to issue verdict on Golkar

JAKARTA (JP): The Supreme Court expects to rule on a case against the Golkar Party on July 30.

Laila Marzuki, a member of the panel of justices hearing the case, vowed that the court would be objective in its ruling, Antara reported.

"There isn't any justice who can be bought, not even by a king," he said.

The Supreme Court is handling the case based upon the request of people grouped in Pijar Keadilanr (the Torch of Justice), represented by lawyer RO Tambunan, who demanded that Golkar be dissolved because it committed many violations during the last election.

Lawyers of Golkar -- Hotma Sitompoel, Ruhut Sitompoel and Tommy Sihotang -- claim that the accusation is baseless and obscure. They have argued that the evidence, taken from reports from the media and from PricewaterhouseCoopers, did not have any legal grounds.

Tambunan said that some of the data was obtained from the General Election Commission.
