Court queries judicial review appeal

JAKARTA: Constitutional Court judges questioned on Friday the reasons behind a request to seek a judicial review of Law No. 13/2003 on general elections.

They said nothing in the law was in conflict with the Constitution.

Judge Soedarsono called on politician Abdullah Hehamahua who demanded the judicial review to convince the judges with more evidence.

Abdullah requested the judicial review after his party, the Masyumi Party, failed to qualify for this year's general election.

During the hearing on Friday, Abdullah and his lawyers failed to disclose the losses his party had suffered following the disqualification.

Umar Tuasikal, one of Abdullah's lawyers, said he would reveal the losses in the next hearing. The trial was adjourned until next week to hear the opinions of legal experts and witnesses. - JP
