Court proceeds with Hetty's trial

JAKARTA: The hearing of a close friend of the fugitive Hutomo "Tommy" Mandala Putra in the Central Jakarta Court continued on Wednesday after being postponed due to the prosecutor's failure to present evidences before the court on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Resni Muchtar presented evidences, which consist of four rifles, five pistols and 50 bullets, against defendant Hetty Siti Hartika to the hearing presided over by Judge Musa Simatupang.

Four witnesses also appeared to testify against the defendant. The trial will resume next week.

A day before, Resni blamed the police which failed to present them to the court.

The police arrested Hetty, a manager of the Cemara Apartments in Central Jakarta, on Aug. 4 after finding firearms and ammunition during a search for the fugitive in the apartment.

According to Hetty, the firearms belong to Tommy. The police named Tommy a suspect in the murder of the Supreme Court Justice M. Syafiuddin Kartasasmita, who sentenced him to 18-moths jail term for his involvement in a land swap deal involving the State Logistics Agency (Bulog).--JP
