Court initiates trial of hairdressers' murder

BOGOR (JP): The Bogor District Court started on Wednesday the
trial of Dicky Kurniadi, 20, who is accused of murdering
hairdresser Adrian Suryadi, alias Oy Beng Liat, and his friend
Surya Teguh Wijaya at the Danau Bogor Raya housing complex early
last December.

Prosecutor M. Manik said in his indictment that the defendant
committed the murder with the help of Gindo Sirait, alias Edo,
24, who will be indicted in a separate trial.

"On Dec. 7, 1999, Gindo called Adrian by phone and asked for
money. Adrian told him to come to his hair salon," the prosecutor
said.

"At about 10 p.m. Gindo arrived at the salon, which is located
at the housing complex (Danau Bogor Raya) and met Adrian, as well
as Surya and Dicky."

Manik said an hour later the four went to Adrian's house.

"After resting for a while, Adrian and Gindo subsequently took
a shower.

"Gindo then went to rest in a bedroom on the second floor.
Adrian was said to also share the bed with Gindo," the prosecutor
said, citing that Surya went to rest in another bedroom, while
Dicky continued watching a soccer game on TV.

"Soon after, Adrian began to rub Gindo's groin, but Gindo
quickly turned down the gesture. He then went to the kitchen and
took a knife and went back to sleep.

"When Adrian again tried to seduce him into intercourse, Gindo
stabbed him several times with a knife in his chest and abdomen,"
Manik said.

Surya, who ran in to the room to see what was going on, was
also stabbed by Gindo.

"He stabbed Surya after telling him to go to the bathroom.
Dicky tried to take a gold necklace off Adrian though it turned
out that he was still alive. Dicky then beat him several times to
his death," the prosecutor said.

Earlier, Gindo admitted to police killing the two men out of
anger. He said Adrian had asked him to have sex with him several
times and that he had rejected his offer, but Adrian kept on
pushing him.

An officer said Gindo decided to kill Adrian after becoming
upset by obscene calls from the victim.

Before fleeing, Dicky stood guard outside the salon while
Gindo take care of the bodies, putting Surya's into the house's
water tank.

Based on information from local residents, police arrested
Dicky at a house on Jl. Sukasari in Bogor on Jan. 1 this year.

Dicky's arrest led to the arrest of Gindo in the early hours
of the following day at a billiard center on Jl. Merdeka in
Bogor.

The defendant is being charged with article 340 of the
Criminal Code for premeditated murder which carries a maximum
death penalty or life imprisonment.

Judge Dirhamsyah Hasan adjourned the hearing until next
Wednesday to hear witness testimonies. (24/edt)
