Court delays euthanasia ruling

JAKARTA: The Central Jakarta District Court has delayed
issuing a decision on the legality of euthanasia on an appeal by
Bogor resident Hasan Kesuma, whose wife Agian Isna Naili has been
in a "persistent vegetative state" for more than three months.

Judge Cicut Sutiarso said on Friday the panel of judges and an
expert team were still studying the request, which was filed with
the court on Oct. 22.

"We will deliver the decision to the husband on Monday," he
said.

Hasan had made an earlier plea to the Bogor Council to allow
euthanatize his wife, who is being treated at Cipto Mangunkusumo
General Hospital in Central Jakarta, but was turned down.

Agian fell into a coma after undergoing a post-natal surgical
procedure at Bogor Islamic Hospital. -- JP
