Court clerk reported for accepting bribe

JAKARTA: A clerk working in the West Jakarta District Court, Limbong, was reported on Thursday to the Jakarta Police by Djajusman, a civil servant with the Jakarta Land Agency, for allegedly accepting a bribe.

Djajusman is himself being tried as a defendant in a bribery case. He claims he is innocent but says he suspects he will be found guilty as he believes the plaintiff, one Salim, had bribed Limbong to ensure his victory in the case.

"I received information that Limbong would receive a bribe. My friends and I tailed him for three days. On Wednesday, I saw Limbong at a car wash on Jl. K.S. Tubun, West Jakarta, and Salim gave him a big brown envelope," he said.

"Limbong got scared when he saw me and gave me the envelope without putting up a fight," he said.

When filing his complaint, Djajusman opened the sealed envelope at city police headquarters. The envelope contained Rp 40 million (US$4,287) in cash. -- JP
