Course opens for 2nd special squad

JAKARTA (JP): Specially trained policemen are badly needed to fight criminals who have become more violent to both their victims and law enforcers, said the City Police chief.

Maj. Gen. Hamami Nata said police officers should also improve their abilities to solve the rising criminal activities and minimize making errors during investigations.

"Police officers should be more professional in carrying out their duty because criminals have gotten smarter with their techniques," said Hamami in an address read out by his deputy, Brig. Gen. Gunawan.

On Thursday, Gunawan officially opened a one-month training program for 91 officers from the City Police's second Pioneer Squad at the Lido Police School, Sukabumi, West Java. The officers were recruited from eight precincts.

The squad will be trained in martial arts, diving, driving and mountaineering. The first squad of 61 officers graduated last week. (04)
