Course for firefighters

JAKARTA (JP): Forty firefighters and members of civilian
defense units are taking part in a two-week training course on
search and rescue techniques.

The course, sponsored by the municipality at a fire control
training center in Ciracas, West Jakarta, was opened by Deputy
Governor of Administration Affairs Idroes yesterday.

Idroes said firefighters and civilian defense units badly
needed the course as saving people from disaster was part of
their humanitarian mission.

The training course is intended to improve the professionalism
of both firefighters and civilian defense unit members, he said.
