Counting their blessings

Every year, Muslims the world over observe the fasting month of Ramadhan, a special period of spiritual enrichment and contemplation.

It's also a time to think of the less fortunate, who continue to fulfill their religious obligations despite the hardships confronting them.

While some people can still afford regular Ramadhan traditions -- enjoying special treats for breaking the fast or predawn meal, and buying new clothes for their families for the Idul Fitri festivities -- there are others who only dream of such luxuries.

With just over a week to the holidays, it's a good time for us to think of those struggling to get by -- and count our blessings.
