Counterfeiter gets six years

MEDAN, North Sumatra: The Medan District Court sentenced 31- year-old Sarma Dedi Saragih to six years in jail on Tuesday, for counterfeiting, Antara reported yesterday.

The medical student from a local private university was found guilty of counterfeiting Rp 16,820,000 in Rp 10,000 (US$4.25) notes.

The court said Sarma collaborated with two friends, Sumadi and Sunardi, in February, to print the money with a sophisticated Japanese computer.

Sarma said he committed the crime because he needed money to pay for his final exams. (swe)
