Counterfeit seized in C. Java raids

MAGELANG, Central Java: Police here said they have seized some Rp 200 million in fake bills and arrested 51 people for laundering counterfeit money in the province in separate raids over the past two months.

Magelang Police chief Col. Buchoding A.M. said on Monday the latest raid took place on Sunday when four people were arrested -- Siti Aisyah, Mukhotib, Sugeng Sutrisno and Suwarni.

"The four are residents from Tempuran village where they distributed the fake money in Rp 20,000 notes at the local traditional market," the officer said.

"We believe that these suspects are related to the nation-wide counterfeit money syndicate based in Jakarta, Semarang and Surabaya," he added. (har/edt)
