Councilmen quizzed in diploma case

BOGOR: As of Wednesday, police had questioned five members of
the Bogor City Council over Deputy Mayor M. Sahid's alleged use
of a fake high school diploma.

The questioning of the councillors -- Lismo Handoko, Rohili,
Hotman Damanik, Taufik Kusnun and Suherman -- has taken place
since June 15. Another nine members of the council will be
questioned in the coming weeks.

All 14 council members were on the committee that selected
Sahid as deputy mayor for the 2004-2009 term. Sahid was
inaugurated on April 7, despite protests by non-governmental
organizations and students over his alleged use of the false
diploma. -- JP
