Councillor faces diploma trouble

TANGERANG: The Tangerang municipal Election Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) announced on Tuesday that one of 45 councillors voted into office in the April 5 legislative election might not be allowed to take her seat in the council because she allegedly used a fake diploma in applying for the election.

"The councilor representing the Cileduk and Larangan districts allegedly used fake documents in her application," Panwaslu deputy chairman Syafril Elain said on Tuesday.

He said the election committee had received reports that the councillor from the Golkar Party did not graduate from state high school SMA 20 in Central Jakarta in 1984, as she claimed in her application.

"We will ask the councillor and Golkar Party branch executives to clarify the matter," Syafril said. -- JP
