Council to assess T. Abang market
JAKARTA: The City Council's Commission B on economy and D on development affairs decided on Wednesday to set up a team to assess the city's plan to renovate the Tanah Abang textile market.
"We want to know why traders have persistently rejected the plan," Council speaker Ade Surapriatna said.
Ade further explained that the team is tasked to give a second opinion on the feasibility of the market building, the problems faced by traders, developers, as well as the city's market operator PD Pasar Jaya, and the city administration.
The market, the biggest in Southeast Asia, will be developed into a shopping mall.
Council deputy speaker Maringan Pangaribuan added that many experts have offered their services free to help assess the project. -- JP
