Council to approve bylaw

JAKARTA: City Council is scheduled to approve a bylaw on transportation on Thursday amid differences among councillors on the issue.

Head of the steering committee on the draft bylaw, Ali Imran Husein, said that councillors have yet to agree on the Public Transportation Executive Board (BPAU) as stated in the bylaw.

The committee has excluded the board from the bylaw because it would serve only as the legal basis for the administration to implement the busway project.

"We don't see any point in including the board in the bylaw as it can be decided through gubernatorial decree," he said.

Other issues which will be included in the transportation bylaw are the Jakarta Transportation Council and the integrated transportation system in the city which is supported by land, river, lake and ferry transportation. -- JP
