Council speaker inaugurated Monday

JAKARTA: The City Council's speaker-elect, Agung Imam Sumanto, will be inaugurated on Monday, Antara reported.

He won the election held during a plenary session last Thursday with 44 votes from the 81 councillors.

Imam, who is from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), was followed by Chudlory Syafii with 18 votes, Ibnu Sumantri with 10 votes and Muhammad Suwardi with 5 votes. Four members abstained.

He will hold his new office until 2004. --JP
