Council indicts new local tabloid

KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: The provincial legislative council has lodged a complaint with the police about an article that appeared in the Pro Demokrasi tabloid in November.

Council chairman Saleh Lasata said the article insulted the council's good name by suggesting that its members accepted bribes, including a car, from various people in the course of their duty, Antara reported on Monday.

The tabloid is a new local publication.

Southeast Sulawesi Police Chief Col. Amir Iskandar confirmed that an investigation was under way.

Pro Demokrasi management meanwhile said it is not aware of the council's complaint, but added that it is prepared to face the lawsuit. (01)
