Council agrees to impeach regent

BEKASI: Bowing to public demand, the Bekasi regency council will ask the Minister of Home Affairs M. Ma'ruf to recall the ratification decree that appointed Saleh Manaf as Bekasi regent and Solihin Sari as deputy regent.

In a public hearing on Friday, Bekasi regency council secretary Donnie Setiawan read the four points of the council's decision that demanded the central government appoint officials to temporarily fill the top positions until another election could be held.

Various community groups who earlier staged rallies demanding the regent's dismissal applauded the decision. -- JP
