Corruption report rocks antigraft body

MEDAN, North Sumatra: Deputy chief of the North Sumatra Prosecutor's Office Charles Mindamora Harahap said here on Friday he had reported alleged bribery in the election of Mayor Abdillah to the newly established joint anticorruption team in Jakarta.

"The case has been reported to the joint team led by former supreme justice Adi Andojo," he said as quoted by Antara.

The team comprises 25 members, who include law practitioners and professionals.

About the possibility of the establishment of a similar team at the provincial level, Harahap said it would be called the task Force in the provinces.

"It will consist of several professionals like attorneys, police officers or members of independent non-governmental organizations," he said.

Police have started investigating the report on corruption, which allegedly involves members of the Medan legislative council. (09)
