Cop suspected for helping robbery

JAKARTA: A police officer, identified as Brig. Sus, was named a suspect in an armed robbery that killed a security guard in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, on Jan. 11.

A detective of the North Jakarta police precinct revealed that the suspect had been arrested on Friday and had undergone questioning.

"The suspect did nothing to stop the robbery while he was there. We want to know his involvement in the robbery," the source said, adding that the suspect was on duty at the police station in West Jakarta.

The four robbers, who are still at large, used motorcycles and blocked a minivan that was transporting money to a nearby bank. The robbers shot and killed Warto, the security guard, and vanished with Rp 400 million (US$44,950). -- JP
