Contractors fail to keep their promise
JAKARTA (JP): The South Korean and local contractors carrying out the construction of the Grogol-Pluit elevated toll road have failed to repair the drainage system in Jelambar, damaged by their sloppy work.
Local residents said on Saturday that they had had to repair the damaged drainage system themselves last week after waiting in vain for months.
"We decided to repair the drainage system ourselves since the contractors never kept their word," Endung, a resident, said.
West Jakarta's public order officials helped residents repair the drains on Saturday with very limited equipment.
The residents had earlier criticized Kuk Dong, the South Korean contractor and its local partners for their sloppy work.
The installment of piers along the Grogol river has also narrowed the waterway and caused flooding in the area.
Residents have written to the contractor saying that 300 homes had been flooded because a pipe above the Grogol river was blocked.
Last month the residents said that the contractors apologized to the residents through the media for the inconvenience, but failed to say when they would finish construction and deal with the damage.
Kuk Dong has repeatedly been reprimanded by the city public works office. (jun)
