Container truck collapse kills one

Theresia Sufa, Bogor

A public minivan driver, Miin, 28, was killed while two others, Lean and Nursan, were injured after a container truck fell on three parked minivans on Jl. Narogong, Cileungsi, on Thursday at around 5:30 a.m.

Miin had parked his minivan to wait for passengers as only one, Lean, 60, a fruit seller, was already inside. Two other public minivans were parked behind Miin's. They were plying the Bantar Gebang to Cileungsi route.

Driver Nursan, who sustained a minor injury in the accident, was sitting in his minivan.

An eyewitness, Oman, 28, said a container truck came from behind the minivans. When it passed the parked vehicles, it suddenly toppled onto the minivans.

The container fell onto Miin's vehicle, killing him instantly. It also broke Lean's leg and caused minor injuries to Nursan. The driver of the third minivan, Taufik, was unharmed because he was not inside his vehicle when the incident occurred.

Lean and Nursan were immediately taken to the nearest hospital.

Truck driver Sakim bin Yana was taken to Bogor Police station.

Police traffic division chief Adj. Comr. Udin Zaenudin said the container truck lost its balance on the bumpy road.

"We asked the Bogor administration to repair the road two months ago, but there was no response from them until this accident occurred," he said.

Udin quoted an administration official as saying that the repair project was the responsibility of the West Java provincial administration, which had planned to repair it in 2005.
