Construction accident leaves one dead

DENPASAR, Bali: A construction worker was killed and another seriously injured on Monday afternoon when a six-meter concrete wall they were working on collapsed on them.

"The victim was identified as Wayan Reped. We believe he died instantly. A huge slab of the wall crashed on top of him," police said.

The injured man was identified as Reped's nephew, Nengah Beratayasa.

The accident occurred in the yard of building materials supplier U.D. Tri Cahaya Mawar in Paang Kaja hamlet, some eight kilometers north of Denpasar.

The concrete wall was located on a slope that ran down to the edge of a river. Reped was repairing the foundation of the wall while Nengah was working on the top of the wall.

The wall reportedly collapsed when Reped made a hole near its base.(zen/lup)
