Constitutional Court holds mock trial

JAKARTA: In cooperation with the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) secretariat, the Constitutional Court (MK) on Thursday held a mock hearing of constitutional disputes.

Nine staff from the MK secretariat played the role as the panel of nine justices while others played the role as court clerks and lawyers acting for people seeking judicial reviews.

The trial was interrupted by a visitor who shouted: "Long live reform, long live reform."

The chief judge ordered security officers to escort the trouble-maker, who was part of the act, out of the courtroom.

Unlike in the regular courtroom, where tables are covered with green cloth, the tables for MK hearings are covered with red cloth.

Some constitutional judges, including Jimly Asshidiqqie, Achmad Roestandi, and Gede Palguna, and MK secretary general Janedjri M. Ghafar attended the mock hearings.

Jimly also promised to finish some of the 14 cases in December. -- JP
