Conjoined twins to get surgery

SURABAYA: Dr. Soetomo General Hospital in the East Java capital of Surabaya has received another set of conjoined twins for separation surgery, doctors said on Tuesday.

Dwipayanti and Dwipayani, twin babies of parents from Sanglah, Bali, were born on May 1. They were conjoined at the stomach and chest and their hearts were connected, a condition known as xypoomphalophagus.

Doctors said they could not guarantee surgery to separate the twins would be successful because of the twins' health. The babies were the 17th set of conjoined twins and the third in a year to be admitted by the hospital. --JP
