Concorde jets into Jakarta

JAKARTA (JP): To help celebrate Indonesia Air Show '96, which is being held at Soekarno-Hatta Airport until June 30, British Airways will operate an additional scheduled one-off flight between London and Jakarta using a Concorde aircraft.

The world's only supersonic passenger aircraft will arrive at Soekarno-Hatta airport on Monday, June 24, at 7:30 a.m. The return flight to London will be on Friday June 28, at 12:35 p.m. Tickets for the flight are on sale.

The Concorde will cover the 8,200 miles from Jakarta to London in 10 hours and 20 minutes. The fastest subsonic flights (Boeing 747-400) from Jakarta to London currently take 15 hours and 20 minutes. Due to noise restrictions, the aircraft will not fly supersonic over land. It will make refueling stops at Colombo and Jeddah.
