Concerns over national unity

Another new organization has emerged, this time under the name Persatuan Nasional Indonesia (Indonesian National Unity). Although it does not want to be known by its initials, PNI, the new organization is backed by prominent personalities of the old PNI (Partai Nasional Indonesia, or Indonesian Nationalist Party). The interesting thing is not only that the organization is led by elderly politicians, but that it was established just two days after the birth of another organization, the YKPK (National Brotherhood Foundation). Like the YKPK, the PNI was presumably born out of the founders' concern for national unity and cohesion.

Their names may differ, but what many observers are sensing is the power game behind the presence of the organizations. It appears as if their founders are preparing themselves for the coming regeneration of national leadership. As we see it, this is the political scent behind the birth of the Indonesian National Unity organization as well as the National Brotherhood Foundation.

The organizations which claim to be concerned with national unity are emerging at a pace disproportionate to the danger which is threatening. We are afraid that the louder people cry unity and cohesion, the greater the likelihood that those cries of concern will work against the promotion of unity.
