Computerized ID

From Forum Keadilan

The home affairs ministry plans to award a private company with the contract for computerizing the processing of identity cards for all people throughout the country.

I hail the plan to computerize the processing of the cards, but I strongly disagree with the contract being awarded to a private company. This is because I fear the fee to obtain the cards will jump so high that it will be unaffordable for many people.

For example the fees for obtaining drivers licenses shot up after the works of processing them was computerized by a private company.

As everyone above 17 years old is required to have the card, it would become an additional burden financially to many poor people in the country.
