Competition on Goethe's works

JAKARTA (JP): The German embassy has launched a 1999
competition for translating Goethe's literature works into
Indonesian.

The embassy said that all publishers and translators were
invited to participate in the competition, which offers a cash
prize of DM 5,000 (US$2,866), to mark the 250th anniversary of
the birth of Johan Wolfgang von Goethe.

Participants should make their translations of Goethe's
novels, plays and his collections of poetry into books and
publish the books before Sept. 1, next year.

The works will be displayed at an international book
exhibition in Frankfurt the following month.

A panel of judges from Indonesia and Germany will pick the
winners.

Participants should send their completed works to Gericke-
Schonhagen, Jakarta Goethe Institute, Jl. Matraman Raya 23, East
Jakarta, or to Thomas Prinz, Embassy of the Federal Republic of
Germany, Jl. M.H. Thamrin 1, Central Jakarta. (emf)
