Companies tee off for charity in golf event

JAKARTA (JP): PT Birotika Semesta/DHL Worldwide Express Indonesia and Planet Hollywood Jakarta will jointly hold a charity golf tournament at Rancamaya Golf and Country Club in Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday.

Set to be an annual fixture, the tournament will raise funds to pay for medication of 100 leukemia patients grouped in the Mata Hati Foundation, Planet Hollywood's general manager Andy Ryan told a media briefing yesterday.

Each participant in the one-day tournament is required to pay Rp 375,000, he said.

About 144 people, including 15 local celebrities such as singers Koes Hendratmo and Bob Tutupoli, have confirmed their participation, Ryan added.

Any golfer lucky enough to score a hole-in-one will be entitled to a Kijang van and Rp 2 million in cash.

Door prizes of a trip to Singapore and golf clubs will also be on offer.

Ryan said organizers would collect Rp 43 million from the sale of 114 invitations to be donated to the Mata Hati foundation.

Another Rp 60 million will be contributed from an auction of weekend golfing packages to be held during the tournament.

Chairwoman of the six-month-old foundation Marini Sardi said all funds would be used to purchase medical equipment, such as syringes and intravenous fluid, for patients.

"We do not focus on how much money we will get from this tournament. The most important thing is the amount of medical equipment we can get using the amount of money," the veteran singer said. (ivy)
