Committee looking for clean people

JAKARTA: The Bung Hatta Anti Corruption Award committee is inviting the public to nominate recipients of its annual award, which will be conferred on Aug. 17, national independence day.

Committee chairwoman Clara Joewono said on Thursday that the candidates could be government officials, businesspeople or other people, including journalists.

Clara said the candidates should have clean track records, be free from corruption and bribery, as well as actively engaged in corruption eradication.

Last year's recipients included former president of state- owned tin producer PT Timah Tbk Erry Riyana Hardjapamekas, prosecutor M. Yamin, judge Syamsul Qomar and journalist Karaniya Dharmasaputra of Tempo magazine.

The public are encouraged to propose candidates, All proposal should be sent to the committee's secretariat on Jl. Kalibata Timur IV D/6, South Jakarta (Ph:021-7996556; fax: 021-7996554).

Bung Hatta is the popular name of Mohammad Hatta, Indonesia's first vice president who was known for his modesty, honesty and anticorruption stance. --JP
