Comedian questioned over Wiranto report

JAKARTA (JP): Noted comedian Tubagus Dedi "Mi'ing" Gumelar was quizzed by police officers on Monday as a witness in a defamation complaint filed by former Indonesian Military (TNI) commander Gen. (ret) Wiranto against a University of Indonesia sociologist.

Mi'ing, however, refused to disclose the substance of the questioning, which was held at the National Police Headquarters.

Wiranto, also a former Cabinet minister, reported Tamrin Amal Tomagola to the police for allegedly defaming him in a televised talk show on the Maluku conflict last year.

Tamrin, a native of Halmahera in North Maluku, reportedly accused Wiranto of playing a role in instigating the Maluku riots. (ylt)
